How to win in 2026 (WW #145)

Get Clear. Take Action. Win Where It's Worthy

Good morning friends!

This has been a great week of slowing down with my family and enjoying some quality time. Erin and I agreed that this was our best Christmas to date - because we were able to have some really encouraging (and hilarious) conversations of depth with our kids about the true meaning of Christmas.

Now while I’m not back running full speed, the reality is that 2026 is coming quiiiiiick.

In my last note I told you how my life was transformed by my Worthy Wins reflection exercise - and how I’m inviting you to join me in doing that exercise on January 2 - but I also wanted to make it easy for you to see how other leadership experts and coaches think about preparing for a new year.

Below you’ll find questions and thoughts from five of the best: John Maxwell, Jon Gordon, Sahil Bloom, Brendon Burchard, and Mark Cole.

While my personal exercise has been extremely valuable at giving me tangible and simple ways to pursue Worthy Wins in my own life, these questions and insights from other thought leaders have been helpful for me in going deeper and complimenting the Worthy Wins reflection.

Check them out - and hope to see you on January 2 at 3pm Eastern, 12pm Pacific to spend 90 minutes ensuring you are set up to win in the MOST important places in 2026.

Much love,

JO

WISDOM FROM SOME OF THE BEST

John Maxwell

Arguably the GOAT of leadership has 9 questions to ask yourself at the end of the year.

Jon Gordon

One of the best speakers in the world and a friend of mine encourages people to choose ONE word.

Sahil Bloom

Sahil is an up and coming thought leader who asks 7 questions in his personal annual review…

  1. What did I change my mind on this year?
  2. What created energy this year?
  3. What drained energy this year?
  4. What were the Boat Anchors in my life?
  5. What did I not do because of fear?
  6. What were my greatest hits and worst misses?
  7. What did I learn this year?

Brendon Burchard

Brendon leads GrowthDay and brings so much tangible wisdom to consider - these 5 questions help us gauge how last year went and what needs to change in 2026...

QUESTION #1 Were you mostly in Progress Mode in 2025, or Passive Mode?

QUESTION #2 Did you FEEL THE DAY and HAVE FUN? Go month by month. Capture your favorite moments of presence and play from this year.

QUESTION #3 Were you AWESOME to other humans - did you get present, give them positive energy, consciously take moments to uplift them with appreciation and fun?

QUESTION #4 Are you TURNING ON your full energies and powers each day? Do you STARTLE YOURSELF AWAKE each day? Do you have practices to snap yourself out of ho-hum life into ho-ho-ho joyful life?

QUESTION #5 Did you protect and built the TEMPLE, did you protect, restore, and strengthen your BODY?

Mark Cole (CEO of Maxwell Leadership)

Mark leads one of the world's best known leadership organizations and has a robust personal reflection system, he also has a simple starting point for anyone...

“What’s your plan to grow? To get better in 2026? What are you going to do in 2026 to be sure you will be better at the end of the year?” And he focuses on 3 questions as a starting point.

  • CONTENT What content are you going to consume?
  • MENTORSHIP Who are the people that are going to speak into your life?
  • EXPERIENCES What experiences are you going to visit/invest in?

Get Clear. Take Action. Win Where It's Worthy Good morning! Have you ever been driving and cut it close on refilling before completely running out? If you’ve ever done that or gotten close you’ll know that today’s modern cars will go from telling you the exact mileage you have left (ie 10 miles) to empty to just saying, “Low Fuel.” It’s basically the final warning that you are about to run out of gas. And when you get into that “Low Fuel” zone, you’re playing with fire. It’s a giant risk....

Get Clear. Take Action. Win Where It's Worthy Hi friends, Crazy that we are already 25% through the year. 😅 I had a very productive - and frantic - Q1. A lot of beautiful memories and moments. Speaking, consulting, and life-giving fellowship with new and old friends. An awesome time getting to share from the stage in Dallas in February Stops included: London, Barcelona, Dallas, Boston, Grand Rapids, Orlando, and Owensboro (yes - as in Owensboro, Kentucky, home of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame -...

Get Clear. Take Action. Win Where It's Worthy Good morning! I’m feeling truly grateful this morning because I did something foolish last week. And the outcome was looking very bad. In fact, I was catching looks all day Saturday at my kid’s basketball games from people who were clearly concerned. Over and over they would mouth to me from across the gym something along the lines of… “What happened? Are you good?” I couldn’t hide it. I was definitely not good. And it was obvious to everyone....
